Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Endarterectomy: Internal iliac artery

You have had an artery in your pelvis opened up by an incision.

Arteries are blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart. They supply all the tissue in the body with oxygen-rich blood.

When a blood vessel is surgically opened, deposits or blood clots can be removed from the inside of the blood vessel. In the process, the inner layer of the blood vessel wall is also usually removed. A vascular patch is often used to seal the blood vessel again. This patch is sewn to the blood vessel.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
