Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Endarterectomy: Other
You have had one or more of your blood vessels opened up by an incision.
When a blood vessel is surgically opened, deposits or blood clots can be removed from the inside of the blood vessel. In the process, the inner layer of the blood vessel wall is also usually removed. A vascular patch is often used to seal the blood vessel again. This patch is sewn to the blood vessel.
