A piece has been removed from your pulmonary artery.

Arteries are blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart. They supply all the tissue in the body with oxygen-rich blood.

Oxygen-poor blood gets from the heart to the lungs through the pulmonary arteries, where the blood is then enriched with oxygen.

Sections of blood vessels may be removed, for example, if the blood vessel is enlarged there. A replacement, either from the person’s own body or an artificial one, can then be implanted into the blood vessel.
