5-383.72:

Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Resection and replacement (interposition) of (parts of) blood vessels: Popliteal artery

A piece has been removed from an artery in the hollow of your knee.

Arteries are blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart. They supply all the tissue in the body with oxygen-rich blood.

Sections of blood vessels may be removed, for example, if the blood vessel is enlarged there. A replacement, either from the person’s own body or an artificial one, can then be implanted into the blood vessel.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
