5-386.9e:

Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Other excision of (diseased) blood vessels and transplant removal: Gastric vein

You have had a vein of your stomach surgically removed.

Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart.

The stomach is located in the upper left abdomen. The stomach stores food and breaks it down further. Harmful pathogens are also killed by gastric acid in the stomach. The stomach thus prepares the food for digestion in the intestines.

Blood vessels may be removed if they have become enlarged somewhere, for example. When diseased or enlarged blood vessels are cut out, these blood vessels are no longer able to supply blood to the tissue. Care then needs to be taken that the tissue is supplied by other blood vessels. Blood vessels are also sometimes removed from one place in the body and implanted back into somewhere else.

Additional indicator
