5-389.34:
Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Other surgical closure of blood vessels: Aorta, stent
You have had your aorta sealed.
The aorta begins at the heart itself. First it runs upwards and then it arches down through the chest to the abdomen. At around the level of the navel, the aorta branches into 2 large blood vessels. These blood vessels first run to the pelvis and then to the legs.
In the past you had a small tube implanted into your aorta. The purpose of this type of synthetic tube is to keep an artery open. You have now had the relevant artery sealed.
To seal a blood vessel, it can be clipped or ligated, for example. Blood is then no longer able to flow through the vessel or out of the vessel.
