5-389.9d:

Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Other surgical closure of blood vessels: Portal vein

You have had your portal vein sealed.

Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart.

The portal vein transports nutrient-rich blood from the gastrointestinal area to the liver. The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.

To seal a blood vessel, it can be clipped or ligated, for example. Blood is then no longer able to flow through the vessel or out of the vessel.
