5-38a.92:
Incision, excision and closure of blood vessels: Endovascular implantation of prosthetic stents: Vena cava: Stent prosthesis with valve function, bicaval
Two synthetic stents were implanted into your venae cavae.
The venae cavae are large blood vessels. They collect oxygen-poor blood from the body and carry it back to the heart. There is a superior and inferior vena cava.
To implant a stent, a tube is used to push it, folded up, through the blood vessels. The stent is then unfolded at the correct site, next to the heart.
One stent was implanted next to your heart in your upper vena cava, and one in your lower vena cava. Each of these two stents has a valve. The valves work like typical valves. They prevent blood from flowing back out of your heart into the venae cavae. However, the blood from the venae cavae can flow through the valves into your heart.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
