Other operations on blood vessels and additional information about operations on blood vessels: Other blood vessel operations: Surgical insertion of a catheter into an artery
You have had a tube surgically inserted into an artery.
Arteries are blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart. They supply all the tissue in the body with oxygen-rich blood.
An operation involved making an incision in your skin. The artery was exposed and cut. This enabled the tube to be inserted into the artery.
The end of this type of tube hangs a little way out of the body. The end of the tube can be used to, for example, take blood or supply the body with fluids and drugs. The end of the tube can also be attached to medical devices. A tube like this is also sometimes pushed further into the blood vessel. Various instruments can then be pushed at the front of the tube for certain examinations or treatments.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
