5-399.6:

Other operations on blood vessels and additional information about operations on blood vessels: Other blood vessel operations: Inspection of venous indwelling catheter systems (e.g. for chemotherapy or pain therapy)

You have again had a tube inserted into a major blood vessel.

A tube like this sits in a vein, for example in the neck or collarbone. Veins are blood vessels that transport the blood back to the heart. The end of the tube either hands outside the body or connects to a chamber below the skin. When the tube connects to a chamber, it is known as a port.

The end of the tube or the port can be used to, for example, take blood or supply the body with fluids and drugs. Special tube-ends can also be attached to medical devices, for example to remove harmful substances from the body.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
