5-419.1:
Operations on spleen and bone marrow: Other operations on the spleen: Autotransplantation of spleen and splenic tissue
You have had surgery to move some tissue from your spleen to elsewhere in your body.
The spleen is on the top left side of the abdomen. Old blood cells are broken down in the spleen. Furthermore, defense cells are stored. If the defense cells are needed, they are then released from the spleen into the blood.
Sometimes the spleen needs to be completely removed. However one of the consequences of this is that the person is no longer able to combat certain pathogens so well. So your spleen or parts of it have been put back into another part of your abdomen. In this way the spleen tissue that is put back can resume its function.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
