Operations on the oesophagus: Incision in the oesophagus: Oesophagomyotomy: Conversion thoracoscopic - open surgical

An incision has been made in the muscle layer of your oesophagus.

The oesophagus or gullet connects the mouth with the stomach. It is a muscular tube. The muscles in the oesophagus move food into the stomach. The inside of the oesophagus is lined with mucous membrane. There is a layer of muscle around this.

The aim of the incision is to enlarge your oesophagus.

An incision was made in your skin in order to operate on your oesophagus. Firstly, a tube with a camera was inserted through this incision. The camera sent pictures of the inside of your body to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted through other small incisions. The operation then involved opening your chest via a large incision.
