Operations on the oesophagus: Incision in the oesophagus: Oesophagomyotomy, pharyngocervical: Conversion laparoscopic – open surgical
An incision has been made in the muscle layer of your oesophagus.
The oesophagus or gullet connects the mouth with the stomach. It is a muscular tube. The muscles in the oesophagus move food into the stomach. The inside of the oesophagus is lined with mucous membrane. There is a layer of muscle around this.
The aim of the incision is to enlarge the upper part of your oesophagus.
An incision was made in your skin in order to operate on your oesophagus. Firstly, a tube with a camera was inserted through this incision. The camera sent pictures of the inside of your body to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted through other small incisions. The operation then involved opening your abdomen via a large incision.
Additional indicator
