Operations on the oesophagus: Incision in the oesophagus: Oesophagogastromyotomy [cardiomyotomy]: Conversion thoracoscopic - open surgical
An incision has been made in the muscle layer of your oesophagus at its junction with your stomach.
The oesophagus or gullet connects the mouth with the stomach. It is a muscular tube. The muscles in the oesophagus move food into the stomach. The inside of the oesophagus is lined with mucous membrane. There is a layer of muscle around this.
The aim of the incision is to enlarge your oesophagus at its junction with your stomach.
An incision was made in your skin in order to operate on your oesophagus. Firstly, a tube with a camera was inserted through this incision. The camera sent pictures of the inside of your body to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted through other small incisions. The operation then involved opening your chest via a large incision.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
