Other operations on the stomach: Vagotomy: Truncal
Certain nerves that run to your stomach have been surgically severed.
The stomach is located in the upper left abdomen. The stomach stores food and breaks it down further. Harmful pathogens are also killed by gastric acid in the stomach. The stomach thus prepares the food for digestion in the intestines.
Nerves are a sort of wiring in the body. Nerves transmit information in the body.
The vagus nerve runs from the brain through the neck and through the chest to the abdomen. There it separates out into a lot of fine branches. The vagus nerve stimulates the digestion, for instance. For example, the vagus nerve stimulates the stomach to produce gastric acid.
You have had your vagus nerve severed at the oesophagus end.
