A new connection has been surgically made between your stomach and your small intestine.

The stomach is located in the upper abdomen. The stomach has a curved shape, and is connected to the gullet (oesophagus) at its upper end and with the first part of the small intestine at its lower end. Between the stomach and the small intestine is a ring-shaped valve, the pylorus. The inside of the stomach is lined with mucous membrane.

The lower part of your stomach was cut open. Your small intestine was also cut open at a certain point. The open parts of your stomach and small intestine were then stitched to one another. As a result, your stomach and your small intestine are now joined to each other via this newly made opening. The new opening permits food to get from your stomach to your intestine unhindered.

The operation involved opening your abdomen via an incision in your skin.
