Operations on gallbladder and bile ducts: Excision and resection of diseased tissue in bile ducts: Excision of remnant stump of ductus cysticus
You have had an operation to cut out a remaining part of your cystic duct.
Bile is produced in the liver. The bile is transported via bile ducts within the liver towards the gallbladder. The bile is collected in the gallbladder. When you eat something, bile is released into the intestine. This is what the common bile duct to the intestine is for. The cystic duct is the connection between the gallbladder and the main bile duct.
You have had a remaining part of your cystic duct removed. These types of remains can occur, for example, after the gallbladder has been removed.
The bile sometimes backs up. A small tube may then be inserted into the biliary system at the end of the operation. The tube guides the bile through the abdominal wall and out into a drainage bag.
