5-534.1:

Closure of abdominal hernias: Closure of an umbilical hernia: Open surgical, with plastic closure of hernial orifices

You have had an operation to close an umbilical hernia.

An incision was made through the skin near your belly button.

During the operation the contents of the hernia were replaced in your stomach and the weakness in your abdominal wall was closed. A person’s own tissue, for example connective tissue, is also sometimes used to close the abdominal wall.
