Closure of abdominal hernias: Closure of an incisional hernia: With alloplastic, allogeneic or xenogenous material: Open surgical, with component separation (Ramirez procedure), with alloplastic, allogeneic or xenogenous material, for a horizontal defect width of 10 cm or more

You have had an operation to close an incisional hernia.

A large incision was made in your skin near the scar.

During the operation the contents of the hernia were replaced in your stomach and the weakness in your abdominal wall was closed. The operation involved moving your abdominal muscles to strengthen the weakness. Foreign material or tissue is also sometimes implanted in the abdominal wall to provide extra reinforcement for the weakness there. A mesh is often used for this purpose.
