5-537.5:

Closure of abdominal hernias: Closure of congenital abdominal wall defects (omphalocele, laparoschisis): Temporary (Schuster plasty)

You have had an operation because your abdominal wall was not properly developed.

Your abdominal wall did not develop properly before you were born. So organs had moved outwards from your abdominal cavity.

The operation involved wrapping a sterile synthetic sac over your displaced organs. The edges of the sac were then stitched to your abdominal wall. The aim of this sac is to prevent pathogens getting into your abdominal cavity from outside. There is usually another operation after a few days. Then, in that operation, the organs are put back into the abdominal cavity and the abdominal wall is closed.
