Closure of abdominal hernias: Closure of other abdominal hernias: With alloplastic, allogeneic or xenogenous material: Endoscopic total extraperitoneal [TEP]
You have had an operation to close a hernia in your abdominal wall.
To close the hernia in your abdominal wall, a superficial incision was made through the skin of your abdomen. The abdominal wall is made up of several layers. A tube with a camera was pushed through the incision into your abdominal wall between these layers. This camera sent pictures to a screen. Tools such as forceps and scissors could be inserted through other small incisions in the abdomen.
During the operation the contents of the hernia were replaced in your stomach. A mesh was also inserted into your abdominal wall in order to strengthen the weakness there. Then your abdominal wall was closed.
