You have had an operation on your abdomen.
The operation involved opening your abdomen via an incision. Your abdominal cavity was then temporarily closed using synthetic material. A mesh is sometimes sewn into the abdominal wall for this purpose, for example. The abdominal cavity is temporarily closed, for example, if another operation is required later or if there is too much pressure in the abdominal cavity.
