Operations on the kidney: Other operations on the kidney: Decapsulation: Laparoscopic or retroperitoneoscopic
You have had a renal capsule surgically removed.
There are normally 2 kidneys in the body. They filter blood and create urine. They thus help to detoxify the body. Furthermore, the kidneys regulate the blood pressure and salt content in the blood, among other things. Each kidney is surrounded by a renal capsule.
You had a renal capsule surgically opened and separated from your kidney.
The operation involved making small incisions in the skin on your abdomen, your back or the sides of your body. Small devices and a camera could then be pushed through these incisions to the kidney.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
