Other operations on the uterus and operations on the parametria: Therapeutic curettage [uterine abrasion]: With local application of drug

You have had a curettage procedure.

The uterus or womb sits in the pelvis and is pear-shaped. The narrower part extends downward into the vagina and is called the cervix. When a woman is pregnant, the child grows in her uterus. The wall of the womb is mainly made up of muscles. On the outside, a thin skin surrounds the uterus. On the inside, the uterus is lined with mucous membrane.

Curettage involves removing part of the uterine lining with a type of sharp spoon. Curettage is performed via the vagina. This involves using medication to dilate the opening of the uterus prior to the curettage. To do this, the medication was administered directly into the vagina.

Curettage enables diseased tissue to be removed from the uterus. Curettage can also be performed after a miscarriage if there is any residual tissue in the uterus.
