Operations on other bones: Incision in bone, septic and aseptic: Removal of a drug delivery system: Calcaneus

You have had an operation on your heel bone (calcaneus).

The foot is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The lower leg is connected to the tarsus. Then comes the metatarsus and then the individual toes. The heel bone is part of the tarsus. It is located at the back of the foot. You can feel your calcaneus in your heel.

This intervention involved making one or more incisions in your skin.

A drug delivery device was removed from your heel bone. A drug delivery system is a particular material that contains medication. The drug delivery system usually releases the medication to the surrounding tissue over a long period of time.
