You have had an operation on one or more of your metacarpal bones.
The hand is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. Immediately after the forearm is the carpus. Then comes the metacarpus and then the individual fingers. The metacarpus forms the palm of the hand and the back of the hand. It consists of the longish metacarpal bones. There is one metacarpal bone for each finger.
This intervention involved making one or more incisions in your skin.
A piece of bone that had died off was then removed from your metacarpal bones.
Damaged tissue or dirt can also be removed during this type of intervention.
