You have had bone material with cartilage surgically removed from your kneecap so that it can be used somewhere else.
The kneecap sits at the front of the knee. It protects the knee joint. It is also important for knee movements. When you bend and stretch the knee, the kneecap slides along the femur. Firm tissue connects the kneecap to the muscle at the front of the thigh and to the tibia. The bones in a joint are covered with cartilage. When the joint is moved, the cartilage prevents the bones from rubbing against one another. The cartilage is normally strong and elastic, with a smooth surface.
