Die Hand besteht aus vielen kleinen Knochen und Gelenken. An der Hand kann man 3 Abschnitte unterscheiden. Die Handwurzel grenzt direkt an den Unterarm. Danach folgen die Mittelhand und anschließend die einzelnen Finger. Der Daumen besteht aus 2 Finger-Knochen. Die übrigen Finger bestehen aus 3 Finger-Knochen. Die Knochen in einem Gelenk sind mit Knorpel bedeckt. Wenn das Gelenk bewegt wird, dann verhindert der Knorpel, dass die Knochen aneinanderreiben. Normalerweise ist Knorpel fest, biegsam und hat eine glatte Oberfläche.
