Operations on other bones: Operations on metatarsals and phalanges of the foot: Soft tissue correction: At the level of the 1st ray

You have had an operation on your big toe or on the adjacent part of your metatarsus.

The foot is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The lower leg is connected to the tarsus. Then comes the metatarsus and then the individual toes. The metatarsus consists of 5 elongated metatarsal bones. The big toe consists of 2 toe bones. The other toes consist of 3 toe bones.

The body’s ligaments consist of tough connective tissue. Ligaments hold the joints together and ensure that we can move our joints normally. Joints are encased in a joint capsule. Tendons are made up of very firm connective tissue. Tendons attach muscles to bones.

You have had an operation on ligaments, tendons or the joint capsule in the bone area of your big toe or the adjacent metatarsal bone. An operation like this may involve changing the position of tendons, for example. Tendons may also be shortened or the joint capsule tightened.
