Repositioning of fracture and luxation: Open repositioning of a multiple fragment fracture in the shaft area of a long bone: By intramedullary nail with joint component: Shaft of humerus
You have broken your humerus (upper arm bone) and had an operation on it.
There are different parts to the humerus. The top end is connected to the shoulder blade in the shoulder joint. In the middle of the humerus there is a long, straight section. The lower end is connected to the forearm in the elbow joint. You have broken the long, straight section of your humerus. The break consisted of multiple broken parts.
You had an operation to bring the broken parts of your humerus back together and put them into their normal position. A long pin has been used to stabilize the area that is broken.
The purpose of the long pin is to stabilize the bone from the inside. To do this, the pin is inserted into the bone. The long pin is also attached to a big screw. This screw stabilizes other parts of the bone. The pin may also be screwed to the bone at its ends.
