Repositioning of fracture and luxation: Open repositioning of a multiple fragment fracture in the shaft area of a long bone: By intramedullary nail with joint component: Shaft of fibula
You broke your fibula (calf bone) and had an operation on it.
There are 2 bones in the lower leg, the tibia and the fibula. The tibia is on the inside of the leg. The fibula is on the outside of the leg. Both bones in the lower leg have an upper, middle and lower section. The tibia and fibula both have a long, straight section in the middle.
The long, straight section of your fibula is broken in more than one place.
You had an operation to bring the broken parts of your fibula back together and put them into their normal position. The break was stabilized using long nails.
The purpose of the nails is to stabilize the bone from inside. To achieve this, they are inserted into the space inside the bone. At their ends, the long nails can be screwed to the bone. Nails like these are also attached using a large screw. This screw stabilizes other parts of the bone.
