Repositioning of fracture and luxation: Open repositioning of a simple fracture in the joint area of a long bone: By external fixator: Patella

Your kneecap was broken and was surgically stabilized using devices.

The kneecap sits at the front of the knee. It protects the knee joint. It is also important for knee movements. When you bend and stretch the knee, the kneecap slides along the femur. Firm tissue connects the kneecap to the muscle at the front of the thigh and to the tibia.

You had an operation to bring the broken parts of your kneecap back together and put them into their normal position. Your kneecap was then stabilized using a special fixation system.

For the special holding system you have had metal pins or screws inserted into your kneecap through the skin from outside. These were then joined to one another outside the body using a holding system.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
