Repositioning of fracture and luxation: Open repositioning of a simple fracture in small bones: By intramedullary wire: Metacarpals

One or more of your metacarpal bones were broken and were surgically stabilized using devices.

The hand is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The hand can be divided into 3 sections. The wrist (carpus) is directly connected to the forearm. Then comes the metacarpus and then the individual fingers. The metacarpus forms the palm of the hand and the back of the hand. It consists of the longish metacarpal bones. There is one metacarpal bone for each finger.

You had an operation to first return the fragments of the affected bones to their normal position and put them back together. Your metacarpal bones were then stabilized using wires or pins inside the bone. The purpose of the pins or wires is to stabilize the metacarpus from within. To achieve this, they are inserted into the space inside the bone.
