OPS-Code 5-79a.6b:
Repositioning of fracture and luxation: Closed repositioning of a joint luxation with osteosynthesis: By external fixator: Carpometacarpal joint
One or more joints between your carpal bones and your metacarpal bones have been realigned and stabilized using devices.
The hand is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The hand can be divided into 3 sections. The wrist (carpus) is directly connected to the forearm. Then comes the metacarpus and then the individual fingers. The carpus consists of 8 carpal bones. There are 2 rows of them. The lower row is closer to the wrist. The upper row (of bones) is towards the fingers. The carpal bones are connected to each other via joints. The metacarpus forms the palm of the hand and the back of the hand. It consists of the longish metacarpal bones. There is one metacarpal bone for each finger.
The bones of the affected joints between your carpal bones and your metacarpal bones were first returned to their correct position. The joints between your carpal bones and your metacarpal bones were then stabilized using a special fixation system.
The special fixation system involves inserting metal rods or screws through the skin from outside and into the bones concerned. These are then joined to one another outside the body using a holding system.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
