Open surgical and other joint operations: Open surgical operation on articular cartilage and the menisci: Excision of diseased tissue from the articular cartilage: Tarsometatarsal joint

Diseased cartilage has been surgically removed from your foot.

The cartilage has been removed from one or more joints between your tarsal bones and your metatarsal bones.

The foot is made up of a lot of small bones and joints. The lower leg is connected to the tarsus. Then comes the metatarsus and then the individual toes. The tarsus consists of 7 tarsal bones. The tarsal bones form the rear part of the foot. The metatarsus consists of 5 elongated metatarsal bones. The bones in a joint are covered with cartilage. When the joint is moved, the cartilage prevents the bones from rubbing against one another. The cartilage is normally strong and elastic, with a smooth surface.

The operation involved making an incision in your skin at the joint concerned.
