Open surgical and other joint operations: Open surgical operation on articular cartilage and the menisci: Subchondral bone opening with insertion of an acellular implant: Talocrural joint
Synthetic material has been put into the top of your ankle.
At their lower ends the tibia and fibula form the malleolus bones in the ankle. At the top of the ankle the lower ends of the tibia and fibula are connected to a bone at the back of the foot.
The bones in a joint are covered with cartilage. When the joint is moved, the cartilage prevents the bones from rubbing against one another. The cartilage is normally strong and elastic, with a smooth surface.
You have synthetic material surgically inserted into the bone below the cartilage. Special material to augment cartilage tissue can be inserted in this location, for example. The material should help the formation of new cartilage tissue. Diseased or damaged cartilage can be replaced in this way.
