Open surgical and other joint operations: Open surgical operations on the patella and its supporting structures: Suture of the medial retinaculum
You have had an operation on a ligament that is meant to hold your kneecap in the right position.
The kneecap sits at the front of the knee. It protects the knee joint. It is also important for knee movement. When you bend and straighten the knee, the kneecap slides along the femur. Tough tissue connects the kneecap to the muscle at the front of the thigh and to the shinbone. Various ligaments made out of connective tissue help to keep the kneecap in the right position at the front of the femur.
You have had an operation on a ligament that runs close to your kneecap on the inside of your leg. The inside of the leg is the side that points towards the other leg.
The operation sewed this ligament together.
