Arthroscopic joint operations: Arthroscopic operation on the synovial membrane: Resection of a synovial plica: Knee

A fold in the synovial membrane of your knee joint has been removed.

Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The synovial membrane lines the inside of the joint capsule.

You had a longstanding fold in the synovial membrane of your knee joint. A fold like this can get pinched and become inflamed. The fold may also cause other damage to the joint. All this can cause pain.

The synovial fold in your knee joint has been removed via an arthroscopy. An arthroscopy first involves making a small incision in the skin. A camera was pushed through this incision. This camera sends images of the inside of the joint to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted into the joint through other small incisions.
