Arthroscopic joint operations: Arthroscopic operation on the synovial membrane: Synovectomy, total: Knee

The joint membrane of your knee joint has been completely removed.

Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The synovial membrane lines the inside of the joint capsule.

You have had an arthroscopy to remove the joint membrane from your knee joint. An arthroscopy first involves making a small incision in the skin. A camera was pushed through this incision. This camera sends images of the inside of the joint to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted into the joint through other small incisions.
