Arthroscopic joint operations: Arthroscopic operation on the synovial membrane: Electrothermal denervation of synovial membrane and capsular tissue: Knee
You have had nerves blocked off in the joint membrane and the joint capsule of your knee joint.
Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The synovial membrane lines the inside of the joint capsule. Nerves are a sort of wiring in the body. Nerves conduct information. The nerves use electrical impulses to do this. Nerves are important, for instance, in enabling you to sense contacts and temperatures, and to move your muscles.
You have had an arthroscopy. To block off nerves in your joint membrane and joint capsule, electricity was used to generate heat. An arthroscopy first involves making a small incision in the skin. A camera was pushed through this incision. This camera sends images of the inside of the joint to a screen. Instruments such as forceps and scissors can be inserted into the joint through other small incisions.
