Operations on muscles, tendons, fasciae and bursas: Incision in muscle, tendon and fascia: Incision in a tendon sheath isolated, transverse: Shoulder and axilla
You have had an operation on tendon sheaths in your shoulder or armpit.
Tendons are made up of very firm connective tissue. Tendons attach muscles to bones. A tendon sheath is a covering for the tendon. It cushions the tendon and contains a small amount of fluid. This reduces friction between the tendon and its surroundings.
The operation involved making a surgical incision in one or more tendon sheaths in your shoulder or armpit. This type of operation may involve the insertion of a thin tube at the relevant site. Wound discharge or blood, for example, can drain away through this tube.
