OPS-Code 8-138.0:

Manipulation of urinary tract: Replacement and removal of nephrostomy tube: Replacement without surgical dilation

You have had a tube replaced through which your urine is to flow out.

This kind of tube lies in an artificial connection leading from the renal pelvis to the outside of the body. Each kidney is made up of renal tissue and a renal pelvis. The renal tissue makes up the urine. The urine gathers in the renal pelvis. The tube is usually made of plastic. The tip of the tube sits in the renal pelvis. The urine flows through the tube from the renal pelvis and straight into a bag.

Pictures are usually taken of the inside of your body during the treatment. So it is very clear where the tip of the tube is.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
