Therapeutic aspiration and evacuation by puncture: Therapeutic percutaneous puncture of joint: Knee
You have had a needle pushed into your knee joint.
The knee joint connects the thigh to the lower leg. The knee joint is made up of 3 bones. These bones are the thighbone (femur), the shinbone (tibia) and the kneecap. The kneecap sits in a groove at the front of the thighbone. Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The joint capsule contains synovial fluid. This enables the bones to slide easily past one another.
Excess fluid or blood can be removed from the knee joint through the hollow needle.
