Eine Behandlung mit Strahlen nennt man auch Strahlentherapie. Bei einer Strahlentherapie sollen die Strahlen krankhaftes Gewebe zerstören. Das umliegende Gewebe möchte man dabei so gut wie möglich schützen. Daher wird vor einer Strahlentherapie sehr genau geplant, welche Bereiche bestrahlt werden sollen.
Vor einer Strahlentherapie wird man in der Regel genau über den Ablauf der Behandlung und mögliche Nebenwirkungen aufgeklärt. Zudem werden Bilder des Körpers angefertigt. Anhand dieser Bilder berechnet man mit einem Computer-Programm die Bereiche, die bestrahlt werden sollen.
