8-530.3:
Nuclear medicine therapy: Therapy with unsealed radionuclides: Instillation of unsealed radionuclides into joints
You were treated with a radioactive drug because of joint disease.
Joints are encased in a joint capsule. The synovial membrane lines the inside of the joint capsule. You have had a radioactive drug injected inside a joint. When the drug has been absorbed by the synovial membrane, it breaks down and emits radiation. The radiation is to alter the synovial membrane and destroy pathologically altered tissue.
