Chemotherapy is usually used with cancers. The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing. The cancer cells can destroy the healthy tissue and spread throughout the body.

There are many different medications that can be used in chemotherapy. Chemotherapy aims to prevent cancer cells from multiplying and to kill them off.

A range of disorders may occur during chemotherapy. These disorders depend on the medication that has been given. The patient may feel nauseous or need to vomit, for example.
