8-547.2:

Cytostatic chemotherapy, immunotherapy and antiretroviral therapy: Other immunotherapy: With immunomodulators

You were given a treatment that was intended to suppress the body’s own immune system.

The immune system normally protects the body against pathogens and foreign substances. With some disorders, however, parts of the immune system target the body's own tissue or cells.

When treating various illnesses, it can be helpful to influence the body’s own immune system. There are drugs, for instance, that inhibit the immune system. These drugs can be used, for example, when the immune system reacts excessively. Other drugs can specifically stimulate the body's own immune system. This way they can help the immune system, for example, to destroy pathologically altered cells.
