8-711.31:
Mechanical ventilation and respiratory assistance via face mask or tube and weaning from mechanical ventilation: Mechanical ventilation and respiratory assistance in newborns and infants: Ventilation with controlled negative pressure system (CNP) (“iron lung”): In infants (29th to 365th day of life)
You have been ventilated.
You need lungs to breath. When we breathe in, oxygen enters the lungs and accumulates in the blood. This blood then flows to the heart. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. All of the organs are supplied with oxygen as a result.
You have been ventilated so that enough oxygen gets into your body. You have been placed in a ventilation chamber. A device produces negative pressure and positive pressure alternately in the chamber. This enables air to flow in and out of your lungs. This device does all of the normal breathing work.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
