Administration of oxygen: Administration of oxygen to newborns

You have been given additional oxygen through a tube.

You need lungs to breath. When we breathe in, oxygen enters the lungs and accumulates in the blood. This blood then flows to the heart. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. All of the organs are supplied with oxygen as a result.

To help breathing, the air breathed in can be enriched with oxygen. A device then blows this oxygen-rich air through tubes into the airways.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
