Your heart stopped pumping blood around your body. So you were brought back to life.

The heart pumps blood through the body. In the process, the blood flows through blood vessels. The blood supplies all areas of the body with oxygen and nutrients. When a person’s heart stops beating, they also stop breathing shortly afterwards. When the blood supply to a person’s brain is no longer sufficient, they fall unconscious.

The aim of resuscitation is that the heart once more beats independently and at the right speed. Resuscitation often involves pressing regularly on the chest. The aim of this is to pump some blood into the body again. Artificial respiration may also be given. To do this, oxygen can be pumped into the lungs via a mask, for example. Certain drugs may also be administered. The aim of drugs such as these is to get the heart beating correctly once more.
